Filling cupboards through a crisis
During April we distributed 1,318kg of food to individuals and families in time of crisis. That’s a lot of food! To put it into context, a typical serving of cornflakes is 30g, so 1,318kg is roughly the same weight as 44,000 bowls of breakfast cereal.
Each food parcel contains a variety of long-life cupboard basics such as pasta, rice, tinned produce, as well as a selection of fresh produce.
It’s not just food that we provide help with. We also ensure all our clients receive other household essentials, such as soap, shampoo, and toothpaste.
All cupboard and household items are donated by individual people, organisations, and businesses in our local community. While each week we use cash donations to purchase the fresh produce.
More than just food
We might be providing more food than ever before, but there’s more to the Basics Bank than just ensuring cupboards are stocked. We provide an unlimited amount of care, love, and respect to everyone who needs our help. Each client is welcomed with a friendly smile, the offer of a hot drink, and somebody to talk with.
