Hand knitted poppies raise £111 to aid war veterans

To mark the 100th anniversary of Armistice, in the days and weeks approaching the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the ladies of our Women’s Association worked tirelessly to hand-knit a massive number of commemorative poppies.

The fabulous poppies were available to members of the congregation and local community, in exchange for a small donation (we suggested £1).

We were overwhelmed with the fantastic demand, and not only did many members adorn their button-holes with the poppies, but there were also sufficient donations to completely fill and decorate our cross of remembrance.

All the proceeds from these wonderful hand knitted poppies has been donated to Poppy Scotland.

While we did this to mark the 100th anniversary of Armistice, it is very poignant to note that the sum raised was £111.  We hope that in future years our Women’s Association will again rise to the occasion for this glorious salute to those who gave their lives in order that we might live and enjoy the freedom we have today.
