On Thursday, April 30 our Basics Bank took delivery of a very generous donation of food for our Food Bank.
Following the sad news that our dear friend and member, Ron Brown, had passed away on 12th April, the Craigentinny Bowling Club decided to hold a collection in memory of him. Ron’s son David is a member of the Club, and they collected in excess of £400.00 in memory of Ron Brown.
The money was used to purchase food from Lidl, who also contributed to the donation, and was delivered by Andrew and Steven, both of whom work for Scottish Gas. Pictured are (left to right) Gillian Reid (Here To Help and Basics Bank), Steven (Scottish Gas), Rev. Mike, David Brown, David Rae (President of CBC), and Andrew Calderwood (CBC and Scottish Gas).
Among the very many ministries that Ron performed around the Church and the community, was the receiving of the delivery of fresh food from FareShare for our Food Bank every Tuesday morning at around 8:30am. Ron had done this from the very beginning of our Food Bank, but like many of the things that Ron did, it was unknown to many people. Ron always ensured that our small hall was set up for the tea and coffee, and that the heating was on. He would have been very moved, and humbled, by the generosity of the gift to the Basics Bank made in his name.
On Ron’s behalf, we would like to say a huge THANK YOU to the Craigentinny Bowling Club.
See our Basics Bank page for further information on how we are working to help members of our community in times of financial crisis.
