On Saturday 25th February we hosted Craigentinny Telferton Allotments in our church, as they ran their first Pop-Up Cafe in support of the Basics Bank.
Customers were able to buy tasty homemade soup made in our own kitchen using the allotments own-grown produce from the Real Junk Food Project. Bread was donated by the Breadshare bakery, while chutneys and cakes were all home-made.
A spokesman for the allotments said:
“It was very encouraging to see so many local people interested in the future of the allotments, so many good ideas and positive comments. The food was “pay as you feel” with donations of £253.60 going to the Basics Bank at Wilson Memorial Church. It was a lovely venue, with a warm and relaxed atmosphere, and great fun working with other local groups. We look forward to working together in the future and hope we can continue to grow ideas and do good things for the community.”
Craigentinny Telferton Allotments have been donating excess fruit and veg produce to our Basics Bank since April 2016. We were delighted to help them with this wonderful fundraising event, and look forward to doing so again in the future.
